Clark Hulings (1922-2011)
The Fruit Seller, 1971
oil on canvas

In this masterful work by Clark Hulings, most likely set in Spain, the artist depicts two similarly aged individuals who have almost surely known each other most, if not all their lives, conducting their business. From the back of his donkey cart, the fruit seller is shown providing her with the desired produce as she carefully counts out the exact amount of coin required for the exchange. Hulings’ figurative expertise is almost unmatched as well as his ability to capture lighting and texture. This is truly a magnificent example of the artist’s best work with all the elements desired in a Hulings.
The painting appears to be in good condition. Under UV examination, there is no evidence of restoration or inpainting.
