Ed Mell (1942-2024)
Diggin' In, 1985
bronze, 19/28
10 x 15 x 3.5 inches
inscribed: Ed Mell 19/28
“Ed Mell recently completed his first bronze sculpture, Diggin' In, at Arizona Bronze [foundry]. In it, he has adapted successfully the two-dimensional angularity of his paintings and lithographs to a three-dimensional work. ‘It's something I had in mind for a long time,’ Mell said. ‘I bought some plasticine, which is clay…clay is very forgiving.’ he commented. ‘If I made the head too big, I just kept changing it -like oils, you can change colors.’” - Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona, Wednesday, November 28, 1984.
