PROVENANCE
Private Collection, Dallas, Texas

The Rattlesnake depicts a rearing bronc and rider, posed masterfully in a spiraling sweep of motion and it became one of Remington’s most popular works. A Collier’s Magazine review called it “the work of a master’s hand.” Approximately one hundred castings were produced before the artist ordered destruction of the models. The present casting from Roman Bronze Works in New York is number 65 completed on May 31, 1918.

Condition

The sculpture appears to be in excellent condition. The casting is very detailed and sharp with no apparent degradation in the metal and there appears to be no evidence of restoration. The surface of the sculpture has a dark patina.
